Min: Samara Region to get 600 mln rbl to optimize AvtoVAZ staff

ST. PETERSBURG, Jun 2 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Samara Region will receive 600 million rubles from the federal budget to support carmaker AvtoVAZ’s personnel optimization program, Labor and Social Protection Minister Maxim Topilin told PRIME on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Friday.

“The decision on AvtoVAZ has been almost made: the Samara Region will receive a subsidy to continue optimization process at AvtoVAZ, the company has an optimization plan for 4,000-5,000 people in the next two years,” he said.

The funds will be used as compensations for salaries, and will also be spent on education and advanced training.

AvtoVAZ reduced personnel to 40,000 people from 120,000 people over about 10 years, Topilin said, adding that the company managed to prevent bursts of unemployment in the city of Tolyatti.
